The Bernie Carvill Repatriation Fund

The Bernie Carvill Repatriation Fund was set up last October after Bernie suffered a serious cardiac arrest when on holiday in Turkey. Despite immediate first aide attention and her prompt removal to hospital Bernie suffered irreparable brain damage due to the interruption of oxygen supply.

Whilst in Turkey Bernie’s already devastated family were dealt more bad news when they learned that the insurance company which when they had taken gold cover would not honour that agreement leaving the family to settle all medical expenses and procure an air ambulance to repatriate Bernie home, costs to the order of £50,000.

Bernie has just turned 63 years old and was a lady full of life. She enjoyed the Craic and actively promoted everything Irish and was an active member of the GAA community. Originally from County Antrim she might and settled in County Down. Bernie was a devoted nurse throughout working career and this was always first on hand to help out when others were in need.

On her return home Bernie was cared for by her medical staff in the Ulster Hospital Dundonald and the Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry where she sadly passed away peacefully on 2 March 2014.

The untimely passing has left a huge hole and her family are not just distraught by the loss of a wife and mother and grandmother but having also been financially devastated by the costs incurred to bring their loved one home and this is why The Fund is seeking the support of the Ulster GAA.

The Bernie Carvill Repatriation Fund have previously wrote to each of the Ulster County Boards to gain their support for this very worthy cause by way of a signed county jersey for their Senior 2014 National League Panel and the Fund is inviting your club to buy a ticket at the cost of £30 for a chance to win your county panel senior jersey. Alternatively your club may wish to make a voluntary donation.

The draw will take place four weeks prior to the Ulster Final in July and the winning club will then have an exceptional opportunity to raffle their county jersey to raise funds for their own club.

This will be a win win opportunity for the Ulster GAA, the Bernie Carvill Repatriation Fund and for your club or any individual member who wishes to support a very worthy cause in respect of the late Bernie Carvill and her family.
