Weekly Notes 09 March 2015 – Honorary Life Member Mary-Rose McCartan Passes Away

The Executive Committee and Members of St Malachys GAC wish to express our sympathy to the McCartan Family at the sad news of the passing of our Honorary Life Mary Rose, the mother of our former Chairman and Life Member John. Mary Rose is pre-deceased by her late husband Pat, her son Barney and daughter Kathleen. We wish to express our deepest sadness and sympathy to her sons John, Life Member Edward, Eugene, Phil, Peter, Paddy, Seamus; daughters Pauline, Rosemary, Patricia, Bridgid, Michelle and the entire family circle. Mary Banríon má Gael guí ar a son. Féadfaidh sí a chuid eile i síocháin.

The seniors played their second game of the Malachy Murdock Memorial Tournament, run by St. Mary’s GAC Burren on Sunday past. Having been defeated by Crossmaglen Rangers 4-13 to 3-12 in the first game, they came up against a very resilient Clonduff side, coming out winners with a scoreline of 0-17 to 0-14. This win was enough to secure a semi-final place agains St Enda’s Omagh, on Thursday 19th March @ 8:00pm. Best for the town were Sean Hardy, Donal Mc Kibben, Cahal Crilly, Liam Mc Kibben, Daniel Morgan & Brian Mc Veigh.

The new fitness gym is complete. Much appreciation has to go to the various individuals who voluntarily built this first rate facility. Also to the business’s who contributed materials etc free of charge. The facility is available to all members and a fob giving access to the unit can be hired for an annual fee of £10. Any persons wishing to avail of the facility should contact any committee member asap.

Next Sunday is Mothers Day and over the past few Sundays we have been hosting “Mario at the Meadow”. Chef Mario has been serving up his favourite dishes and everyone has been complimenting both the quality and value. A two course at £10 and three course at £12 represents great value. Treat your mum on Sunday next. We wish all mums a great day on Sunday next.

Membership is now due. Please register your membership on-line at www.castlewellangac.com as soon as possible. All age groups and payment options are catered for.

The lotto is now over £8.5K. Play on-line on the clubs website or in the various shops for a chance to win our jackpot. From next week we will be drawing the lotto numbers on a Friday evening in the clubrooms.

The winter fun coaching programme continues and will run for a further 3 weeks. Nursery to P4 will be from 6-7pm and P5-P7 plus any 1st years U12 will be from 7-8pm. The cost of the course will be £5 per child. The club is about to place another with O’Neills – the flyers are on the facebook and twitter page, and also in the club rooms. Separate to this order, O’Neills can produce the squad top with club crest for £12. Numbers are limited so if you would like one please contact Brian O’ Neill with full payment by 22nd march

It is compulsory that all coaches and adults dealing with children within our club have Access NI. On Tuesday night March 10th our Child Protection Officer Cormac McCabe will make himself available in the reception of St Malachys Primary School from 8-9.30pm to help you get Access NI. It is a very simple 5 minute job. All you need to do is bring photographic ID. Passport or driving License. A recent utility bill with your address on it and fill in an application form. We would appeal to you to use this opportunity to get the application in. There is no cost.
