Castlewellan GAC Weekly Notes 29 January 2012

 

* There is sad news to report this week with the passing of Lily Sloan mother of our esteemed Club and Committee Member Liam Sloan. The Executive Committee and Members of Caislean An Mhuilinn wish to extend their deepest sympathy to the Sloan Family and the wide family circle. recently. Ar dheis de go raibh a anam dilis.

* A meeting will take place in the Club Rooms next Sunday evening 5th February 2012 at 5.00pm for all the football coaches from the 2011 season who managed from Under 6 level to Under 18 level. We also wish to extend an invite to all those new coaches wishing to coach at juvenile level.  If you cannot attend the meeting but still wish to be involved at this level please contact John O’Neill on 07711737610.

* The annual renewal of club membership fees are now due. It is important to remember that all players must have their membership renewed/insurances paid before they can play again in the new season.

* The Spring Lake 5k/10k Challenge will take place on Sunday 25th March! Prizes awarded for fastest Castlewellan Senior Footballer/Lady/Hurler, 2nd player, Minor Footballer, Committee Member over the Line! A date for everyone’s diary. All club teams and other clubs are invited to take part and to take at least one other person to the run on that day. More details of the event in the coming weeks.

* The Annual Awards Evening will be held in Club Rooms on Saturday 25th February 2012. Tickets will cost £15 and the numbers will be limited. Tickets will go on sale from Monday 6th February. We will issue further details of the evening through this column and other outlets in the next few weeks.

Camogie training/coaching for the Under 10 girls will take place in St Malachy’s Primary School on Wednesday Night from 6.00pm to 7.00pm. This will be followed from 7.00pm to 8.00pm with coaching training for the under 12 girls. All participants must ensure they bring their own bottle of water and indoor footwear. Please do not bring black rubber soles trainers.

* There will be training at the Bann Road Complex on Wednesday evening from 6.30pm to 7.30pm for the junior camogs. All new, old and older welcome!

* The Castlewellan GAC Running Club continues their runs on Tuesday and Thursday Night. All runners should meet at the Club at 6.45pm to begin running at 7.00pm.

* The indoor hurling coaching sessions will continue on Thursday nights in St Malachy’s Primary School. Coaching will start at 6.15 pm for the Primary 2 to Primary 4 boys and the coaching for the Primary 5 boys and older will commence at 7.15pm. Indoor hurling gear is provided. Can we also ask that children do not wear black soled indoor shoes.

* The Down Under 12 indoor Hurling Leagues finished on Sunday past at An Riocht’s indoor complex. The teams competing with Castlewellan were Clonduff and Mourne both of which brought along two teams. The lads won three games and drew one hence finishing off the under 12 indoor season unbeaten at this venue. Great performances from Fiachra Doyle, Eoin Maginn, Cillian McCay, Eoin King, Ruairi Howell, Miceal Mcveigh, Daire McVeigh, Lorcan Cairns, Shea King, Stephen Gallagher and Morgan Croskery. Well done to all the boys for their performances over the past three weeks. You have done really well for your club for which your coaches and club mates are all proud.
