Saturday 7th December saw the final of this year's strictly come dancing, and what a final!! there were no losers here, but in all competitions, someone had to come out on top, and in this competition it was Rory & Michelle! Congratulations to everyone involved in what was a great competition held in the right spirit over three nights. A special mention to Clare Cleland, who danced throughout the evening with an injury, well done Clare!

Strictly come dancing second final certainly didn't disappoint with yet another great set of dancers, and another brilliant night. As last week some dancers were eliminated but to quote one of the judges, 'The crowd were there to be entertained, and they were entertained al-right!' this has set up what has to be a brilliant final on the 7th December

(Photos kind permission of Pat O Hare) Castlewellan Seconds Team beat Burren in a tight Premier Reserve Championship Final encounter in Pairc Esler last Friday Night. Indeed the limbs were sore and voice boxes hoarse such was the intensity and commitment from players, managers and supporters from both sides plus hangers-on! In tight games all teams have their dominant purple patches. In each patch you have to take your chances. The purplest patch for us was between the 6th and 12th minute of the game which saw the lads take their chances. In that period we scored 2-02 with the goals coming from Cahal Keown and Jason Croskery. Then Burren came roaring back between 12th and 20th minute which saw them hit 1-03 to level the game. The Town went in two points up at half time bagging 2 scores in the 26 and 30th minute from Conal Crilly and Mickey Gilmore. After half time it was Burren’s turn to dominate. Three points in succession left them one up. Then it was “Chilly Time”! Four hard earned frees were converted by Chilly Crilly with unerring accuracy. Burren came back once again clipping over two fine points with 8 minutes left. It was then a great long range effort from Chilly that rallied the troops once again. Burren tagged on yet another score. Then it was end to end stuff with great block and tackles from both sides. Then an ‘empty tank’ went on a solo run. There had to be purchase on the end of it. Jason Croskery fired over a fantastic 25 yard effort two minutes into injury time. With nerves frayed and trailing by two points Burren launched one last assault on the Town defences. In the fourth and final minute of injury time Burren clipped over the last point of the game. Danny Cassidy strolled out and sent the final kick out up towards the highest flood light and then the long whistle! There were great scenes at the end with all the players and their families celebrating together. Congratulations to everyone involved!

(Photos kind permission Pat O hare) Congratulations to our Senior Camogie team who annexed the club’s first ever Senior Camogie Championship Title when they beat Darragh Cross in a convincing manner in the Championship Final in Hilltown last Sunday. It was a magnificent performance by the camogs who kept the foot on the gas for the full hour. As stated previously these girls consisted of the under 12 team from five years ago. In these times it is difficult to keep so many of the girls together with so many other distractions in life. This is down to not only the girls themselves but their coaches and the influence of older players. The game produced a player of the match performance from Aoife Keown who along with her midfield partner Clare Cleland who also could not have been far off that accolade ran the legs off their opponents. Congratulations especially to Martin Keown, Noreen Keown and Sheila Murdock for the work they have put in all year. It was a most satisfying performance. The panel was; Betty Croskery, Blaithin Hardy, Debra Croskery, Holly Carville, Aisling Connolly, Cara Cunningham, Julie Brown, Aoife Keown, Clare Cleland, Emma McNeill, Ciara Gibson, Katie Savage, Anna Rogan, Mairead Hardy, Catriona McNeill, Lauren McNeill, Louise McCabe, Rion Doyle, Becky White, Sinead Sweeney, Finola Rice and Roisin McNeill.

For the second week in succession, St Malachy\'s park has seen some great entertainment, again helped by the great weather. This week saw the Under 6 boys & girls from Castlewellan, Bryansford & Dundrum provide a wonderful morning\'s entertainment, with some brilliant football played. All the young footballers played their hearts out, with all games loudly applauded by the huge crowd of spectators. A special mention has to go to the organisers, who yet again excelled themselves. Thanks also to referees, coaches and above all, the great young players from the three clubs, well done!

A family fun day was held on Sunday 16th June 2013, with the highlight of the day undoubtedly the tug of war with the boys against the girls. The girls came out easy winners 3-1. Special thanks to our goalkeepers Michael Cunningham and Jason Croskery, and a particular thanks to all parents and friends who helped out by making sandwiches etc. Overall the day was a resounding success

Saturday night past saw the awards night for 2013, held in St malachy’s clubrooms. The sell-out crowd were entertained by the brilliant Finbar Keavney, who sang throughout the meal. A special mention must go to Moira Hawkins and her team for setting up the hall, having the place look so well, and for serving such a beautiful meal. The night’s distinguished guests were Down football legend Ross Carr, chair of the Down county Camogie board Deirdre Mc Grath, & Philip O’ Hare, chairman of the Down ladies committee. In Ross Carrs’ after dinner speech he mentioned some of the town’s greats, playing with them at county level and against them at club level, and said that this year’s club success, with five senior teams winning silverware, was something to build on. He also mentioned that it was warming to see how much the club was integrated into and supported by, the community.
