Pride of place and into the history books go our senior ladies who defied all the odds with a brilliant and deserved victory over hot favourites Carryduff to win the senior ladies championship for the third year in a row. By their high standards an indifferent league season was a distant memory as the girls swept to victory in Hilltown on Saturday last. Showing many changes from the championship winners of last year this young team (with a few experienced campaigners) showed great teamwork and courage to win a great final by two points. It would be unfair to name individuals so let’s salute them all and their management who have moulded a new team of winners. Now for Ulster… A special word of thanks to team sponsor Fresh Food Centre and in particular to Michael Johnson for providing the meal and more in the clubrooms.
Our u14 camogs faced Newry Shamrocks in the Championship final on Saturday. Both teams started the game evenly matched, however, the turning point was to be the sending off of a Town player. This tested girls’ determination and fitness, and to their credit they finished up at full time drawing against a well drilled Shamrocks side. After a brief break the Town camogs had to play extra time, they battled hard but after the additional time only a point separated the sides with Shamrocks coming out as winners. The young camogs showed great strength of character – well done girls!
Our senior men put the disappointment of Newry behind them to put in a gutsy and impressive performance against Rostrevor on Friday last. A well deserved victory was achieved and now onto Newry next week for our Championship match against Longstone.
Congratulations to Christina Cairns for the fantastically supported fundraiser on Saturday night past. By all accounts the night raised over a whooping £3,500! Great to see so many from our local clubs generously supporting a great cause and making it the success it was.

On the 10th & 11th of September as reported before Castlewellan GAC is putting on one of its most ambitious shows yet as it produces its first musical ‘Greasy’, which, as you might have guessed, is based on the famous stage musical and film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. This production will involve acting, fun props and costumes, a new stage, jokes, singing, dancing, videos and live music both on stage and supporting as the selected cast and crew perform the songs that you all know and can sing along to! Ciaran Milligan has again adapted the script to set the musical with a local twist and according to those who have been close to the action it is looking very impressive and will be up there with the best local entertainment you will see all year. There are old and new faces. Tickets are £10 and are available both online on our website and Walkers newsagents so remember to get in early to purchase these to avoid disappointment. Keep an eye out for promotional video which is on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Already themed parties are being arranged for both nights with many threatening to arrive in costume so Remember to come along and support your club #UTT
