Senior Footballers Deservedly Into the Down SFC Final on 11 October 2015 – Ladies Take On Cavan Champions In Ladies Ulster SFC on Sunday

Congratulations to ‘Shorty’, his management team and the men’s senior football team on reaching the Down senior championship final for the first time since 2001.  The seniors saw off Ballyholland in the semi-final with a score of 1-13 to 0-8.  We now meet Kilcoo in the final on 11th October.

This Sunday our senior ladies take on Cavan Champions Lurgan in the meadow (throw in 2pm) in the QF of the Ulster Club Senior Championship, please come along and show your support.

Saturday evening saw the u16 girls face Bredagh in the QF of the championship. This was always going to be a challenging game however tables were turned and it was more challenging for Bredagh!! After a difficult start for the Town girls, they settled themselves and started to get into the game. Coming in at half time losing by 8points. Any other team’s spirit would drop, but not the u16 girls! They came out more motivated and more determined. The next half an hour saw the girls bring the game to a draw, the win was within their reach but unfortunately Bredagh managed to sneak 2 points in the last minutes. The Town girls fought to the very end. This hearty display of football did everyone proud – well done girls!!

Commiserations to our U16 boys who were narrowly defeated by Kilcoo in the East Down Championship final, hard luck guys!

Congratulations to Liam Hardy on leading the Fontenoy ladies to championship success in the senior camogie final.  Congratulations also to ladies footballers, Kelly O’ Higgins and Karen Mc Mullan, who were part of the squad.

U10’s had their last blitz of the year Saturday past at home in Castlewellan, where we hosted Bryansford, St Johns & Dundrum.  The U10s have now finished for the year. The coaches would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents for your commitment and support during the year, in attending all the blitzes and training sessions.  We would like to thank the players for their enthusiasm, interest and hard work both during training and at the numerous blitzes that were attended.

Congratulations to club referee Gavin Corrigan, who was the fourth official at the recent all Ireland ladies final between Dublin and Cork.  This is further recognition for his hard work and professionalism, well done Gavin!
