* There was a great turn out for the Activ8 registration and launch night in the club last Thursday night. There is certainly a great buzz and an air of expectation in relation to this year’s activities. Those activities will begin tonight Ash Wednesday. Again for those that are unfamiliar with it, it is a health and fitness programme held throughout lent. It is for men and women 18-80 of all abilities. There is still plenty of time to join this year’s Activ8 programme. We have over 20 weekly events and each person that signs up can pick and choose what they attend, all for £30, much less than £1 per day. The participants are grouped into 8 teams and encouraged to attend as many events as possible to get points for their team. The events include; Salsa Dancing, Tag Rugby, Running, Yoga, Circuits, Ballroom Dancing, Zumba, Hiking, Tai-Chi, Basketball, Archery* (surcharge of £5), Chair Aerobics, Netball, Pilates, Walking, Cycling and lots more. Again all for just £30!!! There is also a social aspect to this programme and we’ll be planning a few nights and evenings as well and as everyone who participated last year will testify, its good craic too. So if your new year’s resolutions are distant memories and you want a challenge then this is the perfect programme for you.

* Now for something completely different though not alien to us in any way. Our darts players feeling a wee bit lift out lifted the Castlewellan Darts League Division 2 title this week. They recorded a victory over the Ballykinlar Club ahead of local rivals Annsborough A Team. Jason Croskery is keen to feel the ire of his oul fella who plays for our local neighbours. Having lost to him last year in a league match Jason was keen to get one over on him. Oh Jason why did you ask me to print this! Still you should have some to live after this though not my house! The lads led by captain Rory McAlinden only lost one fixture all year The team also includes Christopher Overend, Paddy Doherty, Mickey Burns, Alan McDonald, Ollie Doyle and butcher’s knife thrower Luke Roberts. They are now looking for a massive cash injection and a free trip to Lakeside for pre-season training for next year. Premiere League Darts glitzy and glamorous venues such as Mooney’s and The Anchor Bar. Jasey might even stay for full games and not head off for “baby sitting duties” after he has thrown. It has been already decided Jasey your last up in every game next year.
* The club is in the process of updating the jerseys of all teams in the club. If any business or individual feels they would like to sponsor or make any contribution towards the purchase of a set of jerseys, could they please contact Brian O’Neill.
