Weekly Notes – Cul Camps Registration Thursday 11 July 7.30pm – 8.30pm

* What a weekend of momentous sporting feats! The Lions win Down Under, Andy Murray wins Wimbledon, Senior Ladies beat Senior Footballers, Irishman Dan Martin wins Sunday’s stage in the Tour De France and Graeme McDowell wins the French Open Golf. I will just go back a few lines. Senior ladies beat senior footballers! You had to be there. Well late on Saturday Night at the Family Fortunes Night in the Club it was a complete whitewash. The smart thinking ladies won easily! It is very clear they watch more TV, goes out more often, socialise in strange places and only know one famous Castlewellan footballer who is female! The male intelligence and intellect was clearly on holidays or elsewhere. Well done to all the contestants who were willing to step up and give everyone there a good laugh on what was a very enjoyable night. The show was preceded by a barbeque where the food was excellent. Thank you to, PJ, Ollie and Brian for all their work and to Moira who apart from eating all the sausages did a lot of cleaning up. Thank you to all who made it such a good night.
* Good luck to the Down Ladies who meet Fermanagh in the Ladies Intermediate Ulster Football Final on this Sunday. This is the first time in 14 years that Down Ladies have reached an Ulster Final. We will be represented on the squad by Orla Boyle, Kyla Trainor and Lisa Morgan. We wish them all well.
* The Senior ladies Footballers are through to the next round of the Senior Championship with an overwhelming victory over Burren in a really wet last Tuesday night in St Malachy’s Park. They dominate the game from start to finish. The ladies were well supported and thank you to all who came out to see the game.
* The Senior Footballers won in a hard fought battle against Annaclone who we will meet in the first round of the championship. Having shipped a heavy defeat to Burren the previous weekend Annaclone did not want a repetition of that game and set a puzzle which was difficult to break. As stated before Annaclone have made Gaelic Park a fortress. The lads held their concentration well to see the game out and win by three points. They will know that an better performance will be required for the next game at home to Saval.
