Weekly Notes – Senior Footballers Win St Johns Tournament and Qualify For Feis Sevens Final

* Sevens Football has always been a part of the Castlewellan GAA fabric. Last weekend with no league football due to County commitments the senior lads were involved in 2 competitions. On Saturday our neighbours St John’s Drumnaquoile held The John McMullan Memorial Cup Sevens. John who was a playing member of the Johnnies passed away tragically 4 years ago as a result of a road accident. It was a great tournament with eight teams from Down and one team from Scotland competing for the Shield and the Cup. The lads won the tournament with Fintan McGreevy winning player of the Tournament. Well done to Sean McVeigh, Brian McVeigh, Caolam Corrigan, David Gilmore, Aidan Burns, Fintan McGreevy, Matthew Stratton, Donal McKibben, Niall McKibben and Rory Burns. Thank you to the St Johns’ club for what was a wonderful afternoon’s football and thank you for having us. On Sunday The lads qualified for the Feis Sevens Final to be held on Sunday 26 May 2013. They will play Clonduff in the Final. Both clubs have a sevens tradition and have competed at the highest level and won All-Irelands. Expect a thrilling final. Well done to the lads and good luck in the final.
* Castlewellan U-16 footballer recorded a comprehensive victory over Teconnaught in St Malachy’s Park on Thursday evening. In a great team performance the town lad’s dominated from the throw in and made their physical advantage count eventually winning 8-17 to 0-4. The lads will need to carry this form into the next game against Kilcoo. Best for the town was Sean O’Boyle, Conor Magorrian, Joe Cunningham and Ciaran Hawkins.
* We would ask everyone to note that the monthly Bingo will now be held on Sunday 19th May at 3.00pm in the Club. The reason for the change is to avoid it coinciding with Feis Sunday which will be held in Castlewellan on Sunday 26 May2013.
