Well Done Under 14 Ladies Footballers!

* Saturday will see the “Child of Prague” in all the windows around the Town in order for good weather for Sunday’s Castlewellan GAC’s second Annual Spring Lake Challenge. Last year’s event was bathed in sunshine. We are hoping for the same this time. A visit to the gallery on www.castlewellangac.com will confirm how the weather was a blessing at last year’s 10K event. You can register on-line for the race at www.athleticsni.org or on the day of the event. The run will commence at 1.00pm. Registration will take place at the Club and will end 15 minutes before the start of the race. The cost of entry to the 10K will be £9.00.
* There will be a Coaching Course in the Club on this Saturday March 23rd from 9.00am to 12.00 Noon for all juvenile coaches from all codes from (4 year olds to 18 year olds) and anyone in the Club who wishes to take part in juvenile coaching in the future. The course will begin at 9.00am sharp with breakfast. Anyone who is unable to attend please contact John O’Neill on 07711737610. Would all coaches please bring a list of the training equipment, balls and Jerseys to this course and give the list to Brian O’Neill.
* Well done to the under 14 ladies football team who won the Club’s first (and hopefully not the last!) piece of silverware of the season. They won the RGU Downpatrick organised nine – a – side tournament on Saturday past. On route to the final they had beaten Teconnaught and lost to Carryduff. But they met Carryduff again in the final which proved to be a pulsating affair. The game went to extra time with the Town holding out to win by four points. The team was; Aislinn Hawkins, Eireann McVeigh, Sorcha McCartan, Bria McKee, Emma Rice, Amy Barr, Sarah Bragger, Eimear Dougan, Una Rice and Nadine McAleenan. The Club wish to thank RGU Downpatrick for the invite to the tournament which was well organised and for a great cause. Thank you to Pete Bragger, Michelle Hawkins and Mikey Hawkins for all their help on Saturday. Noreen keown was unable to be there on the day. The result was most pleasing. Well done to all the girls for what was a fantastic team effort.
* The Activ8 programme continues. The popular sport of basketball is part of the programme. Down through the years members like Gerry Dougherty and Colm McAlarney have all shown their wizardry at this sport. In days gone by footballers would have used it to hone their skills over the winter period. The groups playing it as part of the programme have found it fun and exhilarating. Mind you there is no shortage of skill particularly from the females playing it. Mentioning no names but G.McK (nee Toner!) showed everyone how to score whether it be a shot from above your head, over arm, from between the legs – she simply could not miss! On my team every time! So this week G.McK – you are my favourite! Please see the website for all the details of week 5 programme.
